Believe in yourself

The 48th Edition

One of the oldest pieces of advice, but perhaps one of the best.

The difference between the people doing the thing and the people watching is often nothing more than self belief.

Where in your running or your life are you still waiting for someone else to say, “you’re ready”?

Struggling with self-doubt, procrastination, or perfectionism? You’ll find 13 practical strategies here to stop tripping yourself up and start making real progress. A direct, no-fluff guide to spotting and shifting the patterns that hold you back.

I have no clue about this song or the Artist, but it’s a vibe.

This week’s track of the week is…

By the way, if you didn’t know, I put all these tracks in a Spotify playlist…

We spend so much of our lives waiting to be picked. So much of my life, I’ve waited on others to decide whether I’m worthy. Usually in the form of job applications to work for companies I was only pretending to care about. I was often told I needed more experience, more credentials, more proven capabilities. Even when I thought I was good enough, I would still need to be accepted. Until I realised, if I was to go out and actually achieve what I want to in this life, I need to stop waiting for permission.

The turning point came quietly. It wasn’t a dramatic moment. Just a quiet realisation: nobody was coming. Nobody was going to arrive and crown me capable [of leaving the 9-5]. I had to do that myself. I had to take responsibility for the fact that I was already enough, and that waiting was just fear in disguise.

You’ll never know if you’re capable of something until you try. And the same goes for running and fitness. If you have a goal in the gym or a race distance, you will only know for sure whether you’re capable when you’ve done it. You don’t need anyone’s permission but your own. So, get out of your own way, and do the thing.

Running does not ask you to be chosen. It does not care about your CV (resume) or your history. It simply invites you to show up, again and again, and prove to yourself that you’re capable of more than you think.

You may not need more time. You may not need more proof. And you certainly do not need to be perfect before you start. What you need is to back yourself. Not blindly, not arrogantly, but bravely.

Self belief isn’t about thinking you’re better than everyone. It’s about knowing you are allowed to try. That you’re allowed to take up space. That you’re allowed to fail, learn, and grow.

You will never feel ready. Nobody does. But you can decide to act anyway. That is what separates those who live fully from those who keep waiting.

So go for it. Back yourself. You do not need permission. You are already enough.

Sign up to that race. 😉

Thanks again for reading and subscribing.

Run the runnable, and keep showing up for yourself!
