The Most Valuable Month of the Year

The 76th Edition

Winter training is where quiet training turns into momentum, and where the cold air somehow brings you closer to yourself.

Winter isn’t just a season to survive, it’s a season that can quietly shape you.

What if the version of you that emerges in spring depends entirely on how you show up this winter?

I’ve trained through 12 British winters, and every single one has surprised me. You’d think the darkness, the cold, the rain, and the wind would wear you down over time, but they’ve done the opposite. Each winter has chipped away at the softness I don’t realise I’ve accumulated during the warmer months. Every winter I train though, I rediscover a side of myself that’s tougher, more grounded, and a little bit more capable than before.

Over the years, I’ve realised that winter training is less about discipline and more about returning to myself. When you’re not distracted by summer’s noise, you learn to train for deeper reasons.

I love Winter training. It’s worth making the most of.

Winter shows us that progress doesn’t always look fast or glamorous. Sometimes the most important work happens quietly, consistently, away from everyone’s eyes.

Winter is perfect for building a base – physically and mentally. Cooler temperatures mean your aerobic work is smoother and more efficient. The quieter gyms, calmer trails, empty streets… they all give you the perfect environment to train without comparison or pressure.

There’s something powerful about knowing you didn’t back down when it got dark, cold, or inconvenient. Something about stepping back inside after a session, peeling off your layers, and knowing you’ve kept a promise to yourself. These small victories add up far more than you realise in the moment.

Winter doesn’t ask for perfection. It asks for presence and a willingness to keep moving, even when the conditions aren’t ideal and you’re lacking in motivation.

Those days end up shaping you the most.

Show up for yourself this winter. Let the season sharpen you. Let it build you.

And when the light returns, you’ll know – you didn’t just get through winter. You grew through it.

Run the runnable, and keep showing up for yourself.
